How To Make Cotton Candy (without a machine)

How To Make Cotton Candy (without a machine) Video Clips. Duration : 5.42 Mins.

This was an interesting experiment to try, but I will buy my cotton candy from now on :) The clean up was just too time consuming. I don't know if this recipe will work without the corn syrup, never tried it. Remember you are working with REALLY hot sugar so be sure to have a bowl of cold water ready in case you get any of it on your skin. You can get severe burns if you spill the hot sugar on your skin. THIS IS FOR A FULL RECIPE --- THE VIDEO SHOWS HALF A RECIPE **the half recipe makes LOTS*** This recipe is taken from the Food Network website. Ingredients 5 cups granulated sugar 1 1/3 cups light corn syrup 1 cup plus 2 tbsp. water Flavoring (vanilla extract or other like peppermint extract) Food color paste (or liquid) Vegetable baking spray Directions To make this recipe at home, you will need a pair of wire cutters and an old inexpensive whisk. Cut the round ends off an inexpensive whisk. Arrange the tines so they are evenly spaced. You will also need an open space to make the cotton candy. At home, slit open a garbage bag and cover the floor area or use newspaper. Wedge 2 long wooden spoons under something heavy so they extend off the edge of the counter. Place the sugar, corn syrup, and water in a 2-quart heavy-bottomed saucepan over medium-high heat. Insert a candy thermometer and cook the sugar mixture until it reaches 320 degrees F, what is known as the hard crack stage (the sugar becomes brittle when it comes in contact with a cooler surface). Remove from the ...

Bangalore-Treating kitchen waste water for reuse

Bangalore-Treating kitchen waste water for reuse Tube. Duration : 4.12 Mins.

Waste water emerging from the kitchen sink has high organic material from the food dishes as well as oil and grease from typical Indian cooking. This water can be treated with a simple oil and grease trap and a planted filter for reuse as garden water. Approximately 30 litres of water per person per day is use up in doing the dishes in a typical Indian home. The first thing to do is to trap the oil and grease which can be taken out occasionally and put into a compost heap. The food material is also allowed to settle down and separated from the rest of the water. This remaining water is oxygenated using a small aquarium bubbler. This cost Rs 250/- and is obviously a Chinese make. It also consumes less than a half unit of energy every day. About 100 litres to 120 litres of water can be treated and used to water the pots and the garden. If any water is in excess it can be used to recharge the ground through a small recharge well.

BIOTECH, India, Turning food waste into biogas - Ashden Award winner

BIOTECH, India, Turning food waste into biogas - Ashden Award winner Video Clips. Duration : 5.17 Mins.

This video can be downloaded here: www.ashdenawards.org BIOTECH won an Ashden Award for Sustainable Energy in 2007. You can follow us on: Facebook bit.ly Twitter twitter.com Blog: www.ashdenawards.org BIOTECH has succeeded in tackling the problem of the dumping of food waste in the streets of Kerala through the installation of biogas plants that use the food waste to produce gas for cooking and, in some cases, electricity for lighting; the residue serves as a fertiliser. To date BIOTECH has built and installed an impressive 12000 domestic plants (160 of which also use human waste from latrines to avoid contamination of ground water), 220 institutional plants and 17 municipal plants that use waste from markets to power generators. The disposal of food waste and the production of clean energy are not the only benefits of BIOTECH's scheme. The plants also replace the equivalent of about 3.7 tonnes/day of LPG and diesel which in turn results in the saving of about 3700 tonnes/year of CO2, with further savings from the reduction in methane production as a result of the uncontrolled decomposition of waste, and from the transport of LPG.
