Footage from last nights show... absolutely amazing. Out of the literally hundreds of bands Ive seen live, Sleepytime still never ceases to amaze me with their show. I cannot think of a show more memorable and amazing than Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. Coming in close second is the Residents and some of Mike Patton's amazing projects. None of them are even close the the caliber of musicianship this whole band displays nonstop... Amazing vocal harmonies, Home-made instrumentation and percussions, and some of the darkest melodies and songs ever written. ----From Wikipedia---- According to their extensive liner notes for Grand Opening and Closing, their official history and repeated in interviews, the name "Sleepytime Gorilla Museum" comes from a small group of Dadaists, Futurists, and artists named the Sleepytime Gorilla Press who owned and operated what they called a "museum of the future" which was "anti-artifact, non-historical and closed."[2] The "museum" opened on June 22, 1916 (the same date as the bands' first concert, 83 years later). The exhibit was a fire which caused wide chaos and confusion. The following day the museum was closed (hence the name of the first album). The name itself apparently comes from a poem called "Of the Future Hides the Past," written by Museum members Lala Rolo and Ikk Ygg. On top of libraries, summer camps, and swimming pools being closed (and ruining the summers for a great deal of kids) garbage collection was also canceled. The strike lasted 36 days, with the city's main avenues filling up and running over with mountains of rotting waste... and even sometimes strange artifacts from the past like Betamax tapes. It was ridiculous! Canada's largest metropolis, known the world over as a highly civilized, multicultural cosmopolitan city, was full of trash. And it stayed that way for over a month. Recently a deal was reached and collection is set to resume next week, but try telling that to the family of raccoons that have set up camp in Mount Trashmore next to my house. One day we realized we had a highly practical solution to the garbage crisis, and have decided to share it with the world with an original (and pretty darn catchy) song. Enjoy! PS. permies.com The first honor system farm stand is at Inspiration Farm in Bellingham, Washington. Brian Kerkvliet gives us the tour. He's selling plant starts in the spring and the full array of produce as everything comes on. He says that the stand next to the road is, at the very least, generating curiosity. People are stopping just to check it out. He talks about the idea of potting up plants that he finds on his property that he doesn't want like stinging nettles or black locust trees. Brian says that he hasn't had any problems with vandalism or theft. Next I visit with Karen Biondo of la Biondo Farm and Kitchen on Vashon Island, Washington. She says that she used to keep all the money stuff in an open tackle box so people could make change. Twice in one year the money was stolen, but that still works out to be not a big deal. A neighbor made her an industrial strength cash box which has eliminated the theft problem. She has something called "pay it forward farm bucks" as an alternative to making change. She has garbage cans for keeping potatoes. I like the free basket. I think it would be neat to have a free shed where people can drop off free stuff and pick up free stuff. Maybe ask folks to put a buck in to haul off old free stuff. The final stop is at Langley Fine Gardens. Little Jamie has been peristant throughout the day about feeding tennis balls to the chicken. This is anews video on the subject of eleven year old Erin Maxwell who lived with her father, stepmother, and stepbrother in Palermo Town, Oswego County, New York State, USA. Erin was found critically injured in her bedroom on August 29, 2008. She was taken to a hospital where emergency workers worked through the night but were unable to save her. Erin was pronounced dead the next morning. According to the death certificate prepared by the Medical Examiner, Erin Maxwell died from asphyxia with sexual trauma as a contributing factor. In a section of the certificate which describes how the trauma occurred, it states "Assaulted by another". So to state this as simply as possible, Erin was raped and murdered. The alleged killer was her stepbrother Alan Jones who was the only person at home with her when the incident occurred. He has been arrested on a charge of second degree murder. Thus far, New York state officials have refused to answer any questions as to why Alan was not also charged with sexual assault. The Oswego County Department of Social Services (DSS) had investigated the Maxwell family three times in the past in response to complaints. The DSS was also contacted many other times by concerned individuals but refused to investigate. One person who saw the inside of the Maxwell house and was concerned for Erin's safety called the DSS and was told by a worker, "It's none of our business. We can't tell people how to live".
